If i do bricks for the grow beds do I need to do a foundation if they are going to be 500mm high.

I think I'd probably do a foundation for a brick grow bed. I don't have one for mine, but it's made of wood (but filled with gravel) and the soil here is about as packed as its going to get. I have about 270 sq cm of ground contact for a little under 500 kg of weight. I figured the 2kg per sq cm or so of pressure on the legs wouldn't be enough to sink into the ground significantly. You'd likely get more surface area to spread the weight on with the bricks, but they also add a lot of weight and the consequences of the shifting bricks are more dire than with a sinking leg or two an an elevated grow bed.

Edit: I must have done my math wrong at some point in the build. Now that I look at the numbers, I can't believe my grow bed hasn't sunk!

Thanks slowrider. A foundation is a good idea. Like you said I would not like to redo it.
