Ok, finally jumping in with both feet and determined to build this thing.

I've really enjoyed the forums here and I've been able to gather lots of valuable information by reading about others' builds so I'm going to share as much of my own build from start to finish as I can. Thanks to everyone for creating such a great collection of information; I'll try to update as often as I make progress.

I'm doing a CHIFT PIST with four grow beds - all IBCs.

File comment: I'm making 4' x 4' decks using 2" x 6" stained/treated lumber for the FT and each of the GBs to sit on. I'm going to build a wood box to encase the FT in and plan on using untreated/unstained cedar for the top of the FT and to cover the ST so I don't get chemical runoff. Would runoff from cedar be harmful to fish or should use a different type of lid to eliminate runoff altogether?

File comment: I started painting the totes with a plastics-grade spray paint but I was really unhappy with the way the paint went on. One of the guys in the paint dept. at my local Lowes suggested using a RustOleum oil-based paint instead.

File comment: Here's the SketchUp. Initially I was going to bury the ST directly beneath the growbeds, but I've decided to offset it for ease of access.

Yep, looks like you're about to make a good start Fikus.

Definietely offset that sump as you've suggested - access can certainly be pain in the quoit otherwise

File comment: Got the sump tank buried - so much dirt. Fish tank is going on the far left. Pretty sure I'm going to drop the height by one block.

Got some more done throughout the day - Lowered the fish tank and got all the frames and totes cut. Still need to wash out all the totes real good and paint the growbeds - think I'll save that for next weekend as I am pretty beat.

Used an angle grinder to cut everything - it made very nice, clean cuts on the totes.

I'll gladly take any advice on plumbing diameter and water pump size that anyone wants to throw out there.
