I don't have pictures at the moment but I will post them ASAP. Basically I have two small plastic bins one with a gold fish in it and the other with the orange round clay that I found at a agway store. I have lots of seeds in the gravel and I have a pump with a timer on it. At the moment the seed bin has a small hole to let the water drain out (with a cloth to keep the clay in) I was thinking of getting some pipes and keeping an inch of water in the seed bin at all times. I have the recommended 12 inches of clay. The system is in my basement which currently is a steady 65 f. I live in the state of NY so it gets pretty cold here but my house gets its heat from the basement so it wont get any colder in there. Once I get the hang of this I plan on expanding - the pictures will show how the system is made for expanding. Big problems that I see so far are the temperature is not as high as I would like and there isn't as much sunlight getting through the window as I would like either.
Comments and suggestions are welcome. I wold really love to hear about plants that don't need a lot of sunlight and fish that thrive at a steady 65 degree F.
Side note: This spring I'm building a 1000 gallon pond in my back yard right beside my garden. I'll use the water from it to water my garden and replace the water with water gathered from my gutter system on my house that drains into water barrels. I will also try to get it to work with some kind of aquaponics system....possibly inside of a greenhouse.
