Looks like you have passed the gravel washing induction there Ed! Fun isn't it. The system is looking good, and don't worry the dust will settle soon.

Hi Ed

Maybe put a T junction and a tap in the supply line just as it is leaving the sump so you can send some of the water directly back into the sump. Gives you complete control over how much water goes into you tank and that should stop your overflowing problem :) I assume those garden hoses will become PVC once you extra fish tank goes in so that will allow more flow in the future :)

Looking at the amount of grow beds you have in you sketch up, it seems like you will need a bigger sump?

My calculations would be:

7 x partial IBC grow beds at an estimated 400 litres each = 2800 litres, plus, 8 x half blue barrels at 100 litres each =800 litres

Total 3600 litres of grow beds that will require at least half their capacity in water to fill so lets say 1,800 litres.

To be safe and save on daily top up I think you would need at least 2000 litres for a sump, probably more if you can manage it :D, or

Sequential fill if you don't mind adding a spider valve.

Hi fishfodder

When i did the test run i figured i would need more sump but would sort it when doing the next stage.
Saw the spider valve in one of the posts and it might be worth having a closer look when i get to stage 2.
It may alow me to add more beds later
