well after browsing the forum for awhile, getting all sorts of ideas i decided to go with a small system first up. so i have a 1000lt tank with 2 byap grow beds.built the stands myself and joined the club of gravel washing (great fun ).plumbing seemed to go alright. no leaks etc. switched it all on yesterday arvo and it works ok. (i think ). now can anyone advise me about the best way to cycle the system.hopefully plan on getting some trout to add in late march early april.(wher do i get fingerlings from ? ) i will post some photos when i work out how to do it. let the fun begin.

with regards to cycling it depends on what method you want to do, fishless is popular & and seems to be the fastest, for mor info just search for fishless cycling and/or this is a great thread started the other day
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=6809&hilit=fishless+cycling

gives you all the info you need to get started

welcome, ive only been involved in AP for about 4 months and im already an addict so goodluck!! (my barra are already my kids!!)

Welcome to the club....

Yes, I suggest you go down the fishless cycling path, less stressful for the fishes and you...
especially when ammonia is more toxic at high temperatures...

There are couple of members, Nocky & Rick, who are from Narrogin... Did a quick google map search,
I think Wagin is quite close to Narrogin... Find out where they get their trout from... PM them...

Hi Toothy good to see another Upper Great Southern APer, have PMed you about Trout, fishless cycling is the best way to go, I added a couple of six packs worth of humonia to get things happening, I did much the same as you and had system pumping in March and added fish a couple of months later, I added seedlings in about end of March, Ammonia etc will still go up when you add fish but the temps will be low enough (hopefully) for fish to handle it, I had no problems with the spikes anyhow, keep in touch if you have any problems and will see if I can help you out, we ahave a few APers here in NGN now
