also, I think the Silvers are a little more suseptible to pH being <6.2... whereas, surprisingly the trout, despite being generally more sensitive in other aspects, don't seem to be as phased...

:)

No more fatalities this morning.
PH = 6.6 - 6.8
Ammonia = 0.25 - 0.5

Wish I knew what was wrong with my beans (see photo on previous page).

Gonna try some Eco Rose, any guidelines for how much to apply?

Those Beans don't look like a nutrient deficiency to me. I'd opt for red spider mite, but it also maybe a disease or scale insects of some type but I'm not really up with problems in beans. but that raised puckered appearance would suggest a sucking insect attack on the underside of the leaf to me.
Have a look for fine web like spider web on the underside of the leaves - the mites are small and difficult to see with the naked eye. I think they are not real fond of a seasol spray on the underside of the leaf.

Scottie.

The fin rot on your SP photo and pH levels indicate that the acid conditions may be eroding the natural slime and development of fin structure. Therefore they erode and fray.

To counter for the acidic conditions, the fish will stimulate mucous production for protection. With this excess mucous sloughing of into the water, it is essentially a protein. Combined with your morts, the extra protein (excess slime & dead fish) - good chance why your NH3 levels are elevated.

This is where extra aeration can be of assistance, for every 1 gram of Ammonia propcessed by your Nitro bacteria, approx 5 grams of Oxygen is required. As Air is 20% Oxygen, you thus need 10gm of aeration for every 1 gram of NH3->NO2->NO2 conversion.

All the more air will also help destress your fish, particularly lower pH concs.

As to the fine filter, what is your Growing bed inlet pipework or valves like and what is your flow rate? Not 100% up to date on your GB media, looks like clay balls?

cheers
