Hi aquaponickers,

I broke my 50,000 litre pool at xmas trying to fix a water leak, damn, turned it into 1 big leak. We don't talk about that anymore

Hence - the pool to pond conversion...

The silver lining is we can now do a house extension cause I cut the pool in half and now we have room where we didn't before. PLUS, we get to go fishing and grow vege's where we only used to be able to splash and frolick around.

I'm still grieving the loss of the pool. BUT, as we come closer to seeing real fish in our old pool the fruition of the pool to pond conversion is about to become a reality.

I've video'd all the way, every single step and posted it to my YouTube account, well, one of them -

http://www.youtube.com/TheGardeningGuru

and also posted links up on my site - well, one of the many sites I have... and built

http://www.thegardenguru.net/

What I need to know now is this -

How do I get the water 'ready'?
What fish?
Where from?

Welcome. Nice setup. Would of been nice to throw a few ideas around first before you started. You could of incorporated airlift bio filter to move water around, solids draining point etc.
Does your source water have chlorine in it or are you using tank water.

Thanks for the ideas. A good thought to throw ideas around but I didn't even know this forum existed until last night. I'm all ears, a horticulturist I am, and permaculture and even a web marketing guru but an aquaponics expert I am not.

What's the airlift bio filter you're talking about, sounds great.

and what do you mean a 'solids draining point'. I set the pump, an 8,000 l/hr at the lowest point in the bottom of the pool. Is that what you mean?

The water source was good old tap water so I'm running the pump now 24/7 until I make sure I get the flow right form the pond to the water bed and to the sump tank and back to the pond.

Wow, 60,000 litres - awesome. I'll be keeping tabs on you to. Have you got a video? Well worth documenting it all. I'm working on water flow and aeration stuff at the moment.
