Well, our system has cycled and we are sitting on 0 (trace) ammonia, 0 nitrites and 5-10 nitrate. No algal bloom at any time, only what's on the bottom and sides of the tank. Vegies are starting to appear - some cherry tomatoes and romas. Cucumbers didn't make it through the cycle and sugar snaps are looking worse for wear, but all others seem to be doing very well. Fish are healthy - eating well and seemingly happy - as much as one can delve into the psyche of a silver perch! Very happy with the progress. Looking forward to spotting more vegies as the days go by.

Ah the first rush of success. As the system matures, you will likely get more diverse plants to do better. My large system is close to a year old and some types of plants are great monsters while I still struggle to get cucumbers to do well. I do see some signs that my system is improving with age though.

Its strange that cucumbers give you trouble. My cucs did great the first year. I was adding a cup of seaweed extract once a month.
