It is actually such an overwhelmingly huge problem.....

Read this article if you really want to get depressed. http://www.culturechange.org/e-letter-plastics.html

I don't know how we could get rid of plastic. It is everywhere and in almost everything.

I figure I will not use it in cooking if I can help it.... that is particularly contaminating..... and go forward bearing the facts in mind ..... buy wood or glass or whatever whenever I can afford it......but refuse to worry too much about it now. It has infiltrated our lifestyle so deeply that my contact is still so huge even if I do my very best to beat it.

On a more cheerful note : The way the world is going....... if we blow each other up it will not matter.

It IS a more cheerful note!!!!! Not much.... but definitely more. :D

Yes, plastics are on the list of concerns along with mobile phones, diet coke etc.

To be honest there is no smell or anything with the plastic 0.2mm liner that I am using. Fish are more likely to die / grow deformed in toxic water. In my tank algae grows, plants grow, fish grow fine - I consider it safe enough. I drive 50,000km a year, I reckon thats more dangerous than my plastic tank.

Swimming pools that I have assembled previously have a definite 'plasticy' smell, and these have been known to kill fish.

We got the PVC yesterday, 1mm is surprisingly thick! There is also no smell. The price was about AU$500 for 100 sq meters (but the AU$ is very low now). Apparently it's widely used for aquaculture over here.
