Okay today I found this - does this mean it's nearly cycled? Or is somethin else up?
I added another 2 cap fulls if Charlie carp.

Has been about 1.5 weeks since initial Charlie carp and seed water from home system (2buckets)

First 2 periods we looked at IBC of aquaponics - discussed the different aspects and then went over and had a look at the system so far.

We talked about costs, groups, systems, youtube videos, standpipes, gravel guards, rocks, ammonia, fish, fish, fish!

Going to build a barrel system next period :)

Today some year 12's got involved - filled 2 more beds with rocks - but forgot to clean them and the water has gone red again :(

I also hooked up all the sumps -

FUTURE NOTE If you want to get 90mm uniseals into tight spaces easily - cut the slits longer (1 1/2 ") and it goes in like a butter with some dish washing liquid.

The first ones I only had about 1/2 inch slits and it was really hard with the flexible IBC wall.

So the water is brown because the year 12 group forgot to clean it when they were working on it :( O well good for them chipping in and helping out - very impressed.

The sumps connected with 90mm uniseals and pipe. I'm glad I didn't fill the top beds first as this part was tricky.

Planted out with some small seedlings I had at home; spinach, romanesco, lettuce, onions, pak choy, kale, khol rabi

temporary pipe work pieced together.

So the ammonia is about .5 and nitrite around 1-2
Its been running for 4 weeks (well at least 1 bed was for awhile until 2 others came online)
I'm thinking of picking up fish in 2 weeks time ??? Hopefully its ready.
Can someone tell me if adding new beds of rocks will change the nitrite?

The nitrates are building so your well on your way, Id expect in another 2 weeks the nirtites should only be trace. Salt to 1 or 2ppt before you add the fish anyways. I dont think adding more grow beds will effect nitrites, but the added water volume may dilute it down a bit.

It must be good having helpers there to help!

Don't worry about the water, it'll clear out soon enough.
