Hello all,

Stephen here from CERES Environment Park where we have been designing and building systems for a few years now and running workshops from time to time. I've been meaning to re-connect with this forum for a while after a small post a few years ago. We have a backyard style system (about 22m 2 of growbeds) and I am currenlty building a large raft culture system (about 90m2 of grow area) (designed in collaboration with Dr Wilson lennard) for small scale commercial use by community groups. Check out this link for a bit more info on this: http://www.ceres.org.au/greentech/aquaponics

Wilson and I are running a two day 'advanced' workshop this coming weekend at CERES (Oct 23/24, please give me a call on 0402149814 for more info on this) and as part of this course we are hoping to take participants on a tour of local systems in Melbourne. I've left it a bit late but would there be anyone on this forum have a system in Melbourne which a small group of us (10?) could visit? We would like to look at a diverse range of sysems from tiny and inventive to large and high tec.

We would also love to connect with local aquaponics enthusiasts and would like to host a gathering here at CERES at some stage.

I look forward to getting in contact.

Cheers

Stephen

We'd be more than happy to have the group visit.

Hi everyone,

I've been spending lots of time "lurking" the forum and reading - finally decided to register and start posting :)

The IBC of aquaponics is a wonderful resource! I am still planning the system, but intend to have 3 IBCs as fish tanks and 8 to 10 grow beds that are a mixture of 1/2 and 1/3 height IBCs.

Plan to use it a CHIFT PIST, constant flood, as the experiments run by BYAP seem to show there's few disadvantages to this simplest of systems :) I do eventually want to house all this in a green house, but it appears I would need a council permit to erect one (covered car port style). Thankfully summer is coming, so I hope this won't matter much!

Are there any members who would be willing to let me take a look at their systems? I live in Pascoe vale and don't mind travelling :) I hope to learn more, as nothing beats practical experience!
