I'm considering a job in Parkes, NSW.

Would love someone from the area to PM me about the area, what they like/don't like about the area and ask a few questions.

All I can tell you is that when I drove through there... it looked like everyone had Austar installed...

Must be a really bad reception area though.... the bloody satellite dishs were huge...

Well actually there is heaps you can find out using the internet...

Based on my "skills" I learnt from investing in property, Rpdata indicates that population in that area is approximately 10,500. 8 schools and 1 childcare centre in that area. Just to add, historical trends tends to indicate that areas less than 15,000 in population will usually not grow much further in population unless huge projects are planned for that area....

http://www.parkes.nsw.gov.au/ The council's website may provide future development, provide further data on economic vibrancy, etc... and yes, the dish attracts approximately 130,000 visitors... so if you are doing tourism, might be good data for you....

Lastly, if you have already done all the above, I go to http://www.realestate.com.au under the Rent tab, put in Parkes... Call some of the local property managers... indicate your intention to move to Parkes for work... ask them what is good about the area... what streets to avoid... which area is a good place to stay... of coz that depends on your criteria.. near schools... near pubs... near "rough areas"... and just chat them up... after speaking to a number of them you will get a general feel for the area..

You can also call the local council and do the same... Some people I know even call the local police station to find out crime rates...
