Hi there fellow South Aussies!

I am designing my AP system atm. I would imagine from the fish survival point of view that the extreme heatwaves we can have here as well as the near freezing frosty winter mornings are the biggest problem.

If so would you guys advise having the Fish Tank inside the protection of a shed ? I have a concrete walled shed with asbestos roofing that would be coolish during a heatwave.

This is the first of several questions as I plan ahead. Any advise welcome.

It will be better than the tanks sitting in the sun.

They will still heat up a bit, the grow beds will be out in the sun and the water will carry the heat back to the fish tank.

Temperature change in water is reasonably slow and the bigger the body of water the slower it will change.

Biggest tip is running a fish that is climatically suitable rather than trying to nurse trout through summer or barra through winter.

I would love to have a shed like that to put my fish tanks in. So long as there is a good area adjacent in full sun for your grow beds it will be great. Also it's best if the fish get some natural sunlight inside the shed. A window or laser light sheet will be fine

Concrete walls are best when shaded or painted white and 25 mm, polystyrene insulation under the roof battens would also be good. The winter is no problem for trout but the summer is and a shed like yours will go a long way to ensuring their survival at various sizes.

Please mate if your starting off use goldfish for your first year. They are cheap, fairly industructable and will handle ALMOST anything you throw at them... when your starting out there is always mistakes and these little suckers dont cost the earth.
