Hi everyone, my name is Trevor, new to the forum and Aquaponics.(Bought the book and dvd off joel) postcode is 5017. just wondering how you guys sourced a fish tank. tried paramount Browns, junk yards etc, can't seem to find anything suitable (looking at 1000 + litres as a starting point). Even prepared to buy new, just don't know where to look. Joels tanks look great if you live in W.A

maybe look at some stock feed places, ie stock troughs (maybe a bit shallow though. Monya might be able to help you out |

Hi Trevor, I'm in the same boat as you. I got a couple of 450L tubs for $125 each to get me started, but would like something bigger and better! I'll watch this thread. Cheers Scott |

Hi folks got a 2500L plastic trough from farm and irrigation shop. a bit shallow and round- 2.5m dia x 600 deep. cost $600.they also have oval 1000L for 450. cheers |

For tanks ......???? Nylex makes a 4,500 ltr cattle water trough ... 2900mm * 870mm .... Cost approx $869 inc GST..... like the one in first picture..... Also make 1000ltr, 2000ltr, 3000ltr troughs..... For growbeds.....???? Maybe a 1,100ltr sheep water trough .... 2280 * 370mm ... approx $499 inc GST..... Also make .... 250ltr - 1210 * 370mm ($279) 500ltr - 1570 * 370mm ($329) 700ltr - 1850 * 370mm ($369) Made for the outdoors and tough .... also make a range of rectangular and longline (parabolic) feed/water troughs....... see pages 3-4 in Nylex Catalogue

Paramount Browns usually have IBC's/bulky bins - 1000 lts which can be easily joined together. I ended up ringing just about every rainwater tank supplier + manufacturer in SA to get prices, and the prices vary alot. Plastic tanks just keep getting more and more expensive. It would be easy to find someone to make you up a custom made steel tank without the lid. It all depends on what size and shape you want. Team Poly at Lonsdale used to sell seconds but I dont think they are doing that any more. I got mine from Master Tanks on Richmond Rd at Marleston, I had to stretch the budget a bit but it was the size and shape I needed.

I too have tried Paramount Browns, no IBC's at the moment. King Eric is correct, Team Poly no longer sell seconds. Got a quote on custom made galv-aquaplate tanks. ~2500Liters, $900+ and four months lead time. It would appear, that anything that hold's water is at a premium. The search continues....... |

Google IBC totes. These are the most robust containers that I have used. In the states there are many sellers that sell them new and used, If used I only buy the ones that contained food products, many times olive oil, vegetable oil, soy sauce etc. Some of them have a problem with UV light and will become brittle over years of exposure to the sun. I've made a little lid that I put over the top and it keeps them in great shape and also keeps the suicide fish in the tank. I have them from 1250Liters (330 gallons) to 830 liters (220 gallons) My water circulates quickly and I can safely keep 50 300mm tilapia in the 330 gal tank Good luck mate. |
