I have a low spot in the back part of my property so dug a 60' trench so all of the water would be in one place. I though this would make a great fish pond, so i started looking at Aquaponics. When i see the size that everyone is doing in the back yard, it looks like commercial places to get advice from. I know it is over kill but it takes care of my water problem. Although maybe make it into a community aquaponics garden where everyone helps clean the fish pond? Is there anyone else around the Jacksonville Fl area? I have attached a photo of the first stage. Still a lot of clean up. Thanks

Welcome Databarn! Good luck with your pond. Is the water you are dealing with runoff or ground water? If it is runoff you might look into ways of keeping it filtered. Straw bales, mushroom berms, whatever it takes. I personally like the idea of oyster mushrooms surrounding it. They are amazing filters, and good food too. What you don't want is an unplanned fish kill just because something unexpected got washed into the pond. |

Right now it is both, but once i get the sides high enough it will just be ground water. Because it is just woods on two sides of me I didn't even think about the run off. The third side could be a problem. great forethought, Thank you for the suggestion. I looked up the oyster mushroom and it looks like they only grow on trees? |

I would be worried about what residues are coming out of those junk vehicles leaching into the water. |
