I gave up on soil gardening. Last couple of summers have been brutal. When I heard about Aquaponics and started researching, I saw a lot of different ideas. Figured I'd just jump in and figure it out as I go.

Here is pretty much where it is now. When the weather cools down a little I'll put the ends on the green house. I used buckets on 4X4 spanning the "tank" as my grow beds. Now I'm building my full size Grow beds and will start re-plumbing the system as I bring them on line. Auto-siphons in 5 gallon buckets are at best cantankerous.

"if you don't start somewhere, you will never get anywhere"... next week i start on my 10x12 poly greenhouse. water barrels and rock floor for passive solar to temper against Feb freezes here in dallas (-20F for 2 weeks a couple of years ago!) then my tank and beds move in, assemble piping and valves, transplant my square foot garden seedlings into the grow beds, get some sacrificial fish - by spring i'm in business! (after i've killed enough fish thru ignorance and bad luck i will stock with bluegill) |
