I have a 3 x 8' DWC, I hooked up a filter for it with a 1" inlet to wooden DWC bed. I am trying to figure out a way to drain the bed back into my sump. Proving difficult with having to go "up & over" the side of DWC bed. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I wouldn't recomend going up and over the side but do a search for "no holes overflow".

Possible but problematic.

put a standpipe in the dwc bed..
it might seem like a little work, but it's a lot less maint than a no hole overflow.. i''ve used them (nho) and they did work for extended periods before i'd have to "reset", but that's still a pita
if it's easier you can go through the side of the gb and elbow up to a standpipe

In that case, any suggestions for getting a seal on the double 6 mil poly line that I'm using in my DWC bed? Bulkhead with silicon possibly? I've used uniseals in all my GB's, sump, and FT, but know that won't work. Thanks for the prompt replies...love this forum! I know plants and plumbing(irrigation), but the only fish experience I have is catching, eating and spearing them. lol

Also, would I still need a 2" return/drain back to sump? That 2' pipe if expensive and hard to work with. Not really sure how much flow I need in DWC bed?

Suggest using a flow rate that will replace your volume once per hour in your dwc tank

JT has some pic's on his system thread where he used thin plastic backing when using a uniseal through his pond liner..
1" drain should be plenty big enough (as long as your not pumping to much water through the dwc bed)

Gabe, at 3' x 8' by appx 5" I get around 10 Cu ft or 75 gallons. So I only need about 1.25 gallons per min coming in, Yes, a 1" should handle that fine. thanks again. Going to put the fitting in place, using a small "x" incision in poly and then gently push the BH fitting through and seal with silicon. I know why you're fitting was lower. dahhh. using a standpipe at the water level you want. Should I use a larger opening at the top? bell end, 1 x 1.5 reducer bushing? Any need for a screen on it? Thinking of roots, etc. maybe just drill my holes away from it? This seems like a lot more work the GB's. It better grow some good plants!lol
