Check this site. m.myfwc.com/license/aquaculture-certificate/aquaponics/. Blue tilapia are permitted in most areas of the state including NE Fla. I don't know about Nassau county in particular. If tilapia are out of the question try bluegills. They are a native species and very tasty.

Going with the bluegills, thanks for the advice :thumbleft:

How is everyone's grows going? All of my tomato plants are getting pounded by the wind and rain. They have stopped producing fruit! Nothing seems to be growing besides the herbs!

I'm struggling to get anything to grow, but am now attempting, lettuce, sugar snap peas, beets, cauliflower, carrots and artichokes. I've only got a small starter system - 36 gal FT

Vida - I am no expert, but I think it might be a little warm still for lettuc.

Maxxell - What are you growing?

I am closing on my house in a week or two, so I want to get my garden going asap. Going to try and find a local nursery I can get some starter plants already going.

Brooksville here. I retired my chift-pist at the endo of last year and focused on aquaculutre this spring and summer. I am done with the whole media bed thing and I am currently building some deep water culture beds. I hope to have them finished in a couple of weeks, then I will be planting greens and herbs.

This pic is when I first built the system. It was just the basic CHIFT-PIST.

The media beds a couple of months after the build.

Below is after I added the radial flow and net tank.

This is the system currently. The red tank is the radial flow and the black tank is a moving bed. The old media beds are housing fry and tadpoles. We will be moving the fry into an aquarium and building the deep water culture tanks where the half barrels now sit. That deep water culture tank will be 4' x 8'. We will also be building a 4' x 16' DWC where the media beds were when the system was a chift-pist.

I am mostly growing basil while I figure out what's going on with an excess ammonia situation.

FloridaChris, it's too warm here to grow ANYTHING! lol

Just truly trying to get the system balanced and doing something. I had hoped to set up a strawberry tower by now, but now quite ready.

Vida - Temps have started to cool off, should be able to start planting stuff now. Just have to contend with these tsunamis we've been getting. Use some shade cloth over your GB's, it helped me grow stuff in Tampa during the summer. Tomato's won't be able to fruit, but herbs and squashes love it.
