Thanks, troutman sounds too easy. I'll definitely try and get some trout pellets though, fast fish growth is what I'm most interested in. The healthy, bountiful vegetables are just a means to that end, a by product I suppose.

Went to the trout farm today. Came home with 20 very excited 6 month old juveniles at $2.50 a piece. As I was leaving the bloke told me that he usually sells in lots of one hundred for $60. At the time I was too excited after seeing the thousands of fish in his rearing tanks, I didnt do the maths until I was in the car on the way home. I wasn't thinking that I could have brought another 10 and got 70 for free! (O.K I was ripped off, I had a sudden rush of blood to my wallet) My appollogies to everyone - if I had planned it better I could have picked up 100 to share. If this works, and I can grow them out to eating size b4 Xmas then I'll be looking to share 100 next year.
Interestingly he said he occaisionally sells 100 to people with swimming pools who put them in the pool in the end of summer, and take them out when it starts to get hot and they want to swim again.

That sounds great KE. I'll get some in the near future. I'd like to know how yours go. What sort of trout are they?

. Is that because they died or because t5he water was too green to see anything through? Our 4 silver perch seem to be living quite happily in our green swimming pool water. Occassionally they make an appearance and we get to say hello to them.

Julie, I couldn't tell you. I assume they died, as they were never seen again. The water was like thick slimy green within a few weeks...

I wasn't intending to!
But compared to the price he was selling a single dead fish for I still think I did alright. (If you catch one yourself you still have to pay $17/kg to take it home)

It's in the mid-north, near crystal brook. Probably not too far from Big Mick's place.
Welcome Soc. With an occupation like that I think you'd probably get on well with Mick!

Hi - I'm daisyjane - I live in Port Lincoln. I have had a system up for 9 months now.
I just converted a previously hydroponic setup to an aquaponics one - as a pilot plant -using goldfish. It works very well .
I have large growbeds sitting here waiting for hubby to ok the right tanks and then we'll move over to silver perch.
