krissyj, look into Dipel for the cabbage moth issues.

It's organic, works exactly as described, and doesn't hurt the fish.

You'll find it in most hardware stores.

cheers Bullwinkle.

this sounds silly but I actually love the white cabbage moth (butterfly) flying around the place, I live by the rule of each creature has their place, the cabbage moth will eventually introduce another benificial insect that will have their own feed on these little guys, I have many a insect in my yard, I am on a journey to make my property into a food forest, its a long job but I hope to have a long life hehehehe

But the bacteria in Dipel have the right to kill cabbage moths.

Nobody stands up for the little guy :)

You need Butcher birds. I was watching on on the Murray River the other day, and it was collecting every one that flew buy within 500m or so.

love it bullwinkle, I have been seeing some predatory wasps that have made my place home in my front yard, they are keeping them down in the front, I just need them to find my aquaponic system, Nature is nature, Hopefully some Dipel bacteria escape from their box at bunnings and make their way to my property hehehehe

I'm about to help a friend set up a system so I'll check with him.

I can house them in my system until he's ready for them.

If I siliconed up the rest of my system, I could buy some as well.

How many more do you need to get a better rate?

Also, does anyone in Adelaide have some baby yabbies I could buy?

I could pass a few on a few yabbies if you like, how much are you willing to pay for 10 yabbies

Whatever they're worth :)

How big are they?

Well if you are going to be delivering all the fish to people Bullwinkle i will give you 10 yabbies for your system being that your delivering my SP it only seems a fair trade

I'm happy for Bullwinkle to get them, I don't think he'll run off with the money.

I'll start a PM thread with all of us in it. If anybody else wants in, let us know.

If anyone starting a new system in Adelaide wants to seed their new system with bacteria let me know.

I'll put some shade cloth into my system so I can bag it up and give it away.

I might start a thread for people willing to give away some bacteria.

Did you know that if you throw a golf ball (or anything white and moth sized) near a white cabbage moth you can tell their gender.

At least I presume it's gender based.

50% of cabbage moths will follow, then... snuggle... a golf ball if you throw it near them.

I found this out by trying to shoot cabbage moths out of the sky with a 9 iron and a golf ball on the farm I lived on once. Its annoying when you are trying to kill something, and it gets all amorous with the murder weapon :)

Howdy guys, I would be keen to purchase 20 odd fingerlings. What is the go with it. Im at blackwood, so do we place the order and they will dispatch them to our address or will they all go to one address?

As long as people are wiling to pay up front for the fish, I'll collect them and distribute them to everyone, then split the cost of fuel and ask you for the fuel money afterwards.

My profit will be not paying anything for fuel for my own fish :) that way my yabbies will not count. (I'll just do whatever I want and send you the bill)

I ask people to pay up front not because I don't trust anyone, it's just that I really don't want to be stuck with more fish than I can house.

Filleting tiny fish is just too hard :)

I had to fillet & debone 500 sardines for a sadistic chef once. I understand your reluctance.

Hi missyhiggins

You will find quite a few of us running systems in South Australia. As usual you will find as many ways of doing AP as there are systems.

Just follow the links at the bottom of most comments.

Just to let everybody know with the fish order, we decided to go with Narrabri fish farm for the fingerlings. And they will probably sell out of the catfish quickly enough, they are tricky to get hold of. Plus the prices are cheaper than anything local.

Hopefully if enough people order, they might make it a more regular thing to come to SA with the fish.
