I have you covered with a bucket of system water, no problem.

Makes me wonder if it's like compost, if innoculating with samples from other peoples' piles helps build a more robust microbial community. Obviously there'd be concerns about passing along fish disease from an infected system, but from healthy system to healthy system?

Might be a good research topic. Or it might even be covered on the forum already? (I'm not too handy with the forum search yet. I think I need to get a better handle on terminology.)

Holy cow, Sac-Yolo vector control doesn't waste any time! I sent them an email over the weekend inquiring about mosquitofish, and come home this evening to these:

I could use some mosquito fish myself. Guess I will have to contact Sac-Yolo vector control also!

Looks like this is a good time of year to get them. Nobody was home when they came by, so they just dropped off some fish with my neighbor. I'm *really* glad I didn't tell them the capacity of my tanks, or they might have left a lot more than a dozen fish! As it is, I put these little guys in my daughter's old betta tank until I can get my ST buried and filled.

Yolo Vector sure is fast. I sent them an email last night and they dropped off a small school of mosquito fish today.

Yeah, seriously, those folks don't fool around!

Are the mosquito fish for your FT's?

I have the mosquito fish in both my fish tank and sump tank.

Wow, almost the end of April already?!? Well, at least I got my first plants into my GB today. I'll be hitting up Sac/Yolo Vector Control for some more mosquitofish in about 10 days. In the meantime, I may have to find an alternative source of ammonia.

In small doses, hummonia does the trick. Go easy, though, as urea takes a while to break down, and you may end up with too much NH3. You also may get lazy and starting doing it for convenience. I have a "friend" who did that...
