Whats the go with planting the cuttings?? ive been trying to get some seeds going but having no luck

im having difficulty balancing my system, i guess it takes time to get up and running though, i recently moved out into the sun in the last months. pulled all my plants out and started fresh (fish stayed in the barrel).

Ive wondered if 12 comets (small around 70mm) is enough to power a system that is about 200litres...

I have 200 litres of GB and a 200litre Ft....( its a CF system so there is only a total of 200l water at any time as i can drain GB's into the FT without it overflowing.)

I did get some nice show koi and put 2 in there, they were about 200mm so basically bigger than all the comet put together.

the nitrates were off the high end of the chart (although im thinking that may have been because i put power feed not seasol in ><) powerfeed is like >10 Nitrogen in npk rating. The ammonia and nitrite were at 0...so unless these new fish poop nitrate and skipped the proper cycle i think its just because of what i added...


I took the koi out and they are in another pond now.



My new plants are only just establishing in the GB so im wondering once they are going i think i should put more fish back in because i dont think 10 comet will run 200l gb.....


Such a balancing act at the start...

I run a 220L bunnings fishtank supporting two 54L growbeds. I have 5 fish in there and they are supporting my celery, native hibiscus and some carnations. They are in full sun and are still fine. There is no sump and the pump is in the fishtank and the GBs are on a custom-made outdoor shelf over the fishtank.
Your 200L Growbed might be a little too big. but the 1:1 ratio should still work. One of the things, that the seniority around say about these systems developing is that the changes take time. You cannot expect them to be growing wonderfully overnight.
As well as leaving it alone! Stop messing around with it unless you're cutting out some food to eat or fixing some broken pipe! set it up, then leave it alone till later the day or the next and just come to check the fish health and feed them and then leave and get on with your life. Aquaponics is not supposed to take up too much of your everyday! Unless you want to do that.

yeah i think its like most new hobbies, eg when i was growing a hell of a lot of fancy chillies the biggest problem on the forums was people over loving them...

it was always the plant you left and forgot about in the corner of the backyard that did the best...

And back to the subject again!
I'm in the hills 6076 and am over battling the clay and rocks as a soil veggie patch.
Funny, using the same medium just more water... Sounds fishy I know.
I've got 1 gb and ft up and running, balanced on bricks and dirt, waiting to get a small digger to sink some ibc sumps for my real system 4x500l gb and 1x1000l ft and 1x3000l ft with plenty of room for the inevitable expansion. Veggies are just beginning to grow after a period of dormancy.Just got some trout so I'm officially in the game. Unlike my footy team...

Anyone keen for a group catch up? I know it's been done before but it'd be great to have a couple, both NOR and SOR to put a face to the name for some of us newer members. Of course it's also to have a sticky beak at other systems and see what is working for who and where, and to share ideas and ask advice over a BBQ and a few beers perhaps.

My system isn't anything particularly exciting yet, but I'd happily offer my place (Baldivis - SOR) for the first one. Simple constant flow, constant flood set-up. I might even get myself organised and finish the cladding for you all.

Gav from Ferguson Springs was doing a fish delivery when we were finishing the build, so we skipped the cycling stage and with a healthy dose of water from a fish pond with plenty of algae, the GB are up and running without any problems although the water is a bit green.

While I would be happy to catch up to learn more, I don't get to Perth too often.

I am in Wanneroo, 6065. Build my 1st IBC system and hope to expand my systems. Just need to get the 1st one to produce vegetables and fish.

I would love to see anyone's systems. I am open for advice and always willing to learn more.

Looks like there have not been too many posts here for a while, but I was wondering if anyone is out there listening. I'm in the process of setting up my first system and definitely don't want to reinvent the wheel. At the moment I have just been setting up my site (see link in signature).
