Hi. We have a three week old IBC system (1 FT and 3 GBs) with 20 small SPs and some goldfish. We have planted corn, tomatoes, peas, various herbs, tat soi, capsicum, cucumber etc. Things are growing well and some are flowering (the first snow pea was so succulent) The system has cycled now so onto the next project - this weekend we finished setting up an indoor system to use for growing on some barra (we hope) with the use of a heater. We are just north of Bunbury, in Australind 6233

we stopped in at WA Marron in Donnybrook. Jeff was verrrrry helpful and could supply by the kilo (depending upon prior orders) and had a variety of sizes available. They get the odd blue marron from their suppliers. We will definately be going to see them once we have established if our IBC FT will remain cool enough to keep them happy.
Their contact details are Jeff and Carol - Western Australian Marron.

Hi all, Tony from Narrogin. Have been surfing this site intensely for a few weeks, have read other sites but found their info(not all sites) to be a bit far fetched (stocking rates, vegetable produce). This site looks to have the most realistic approach to aquaponics and its a bonus that most on here are Aussies. Thank you to all who have gone before me and posted the information online(including the many mistakes) Hopefully i can make the most of it. Have a 2000 litre FT on its way and have sourced 2 bath tubs so far ( planning on at least 4-6) for growbeds, will have to make a trip to BYAP shop to buy the essentials to show my appreciation of this great information source. TY EB and Faye and all others that have made their systems available to view

Hi there. We got a laptop 4 chrissy & i swore i would never get a mob phone, let alone a comp! Anyhow we got several set ups ranging from 1 x 300ltr with 1 shallow 100mm deep grw bed for lettuce and seedlings (outside), 2x 1000ltr ltr tanks with 2 x 300ltr grw beds each for fingerling S/p. 1x 3000ltr tank with 9 x 300ltr growbeds for larger fish (the last 3 mentioned tanks are in gable roof hothouse for heat in winter, see pictures at forum under - Our set up.) 1 x 5000 ltr tank, with 16 x 300 ltr grw beds in the open for trout in the colder months, how ever we could not get any trout at sensible price to stock it last winter. We intend on trying to get larger and going commercial project. There are goverment grants around but we would feel like bums, so we are gonna do it slowley! Unless any rich investors want 2 have a gamble!!!!! HAHAHA. We live inland from Bunbury. Perfect for Trout in winter, perfect for S/P in summer, hence hot house (in pics @ forum) through winter. WTF!? A FAINT HEART NEVER KILLS THE PIG!

Good story... Taking heavy industry generated C02 and turning it into fuel. (Although I wouldn't exactly call Karratha/Dampier "the Australian Desert"!)

The other question is, where does the money go from the carbon tax ??
Al Gore, the World Bank and friends...
Some of it goes here
Quote:
The government of Uganda and the“carbon credits” firm New Forests Company — accredited by the United Nations and largely financed by the World Bank and the European Union — are under intense public pressure after evidence emerged that over 20,000 poor Ugandan farmers were brutally evicted from their lands in order for the U.K.-based company to plant trees. The atrocities, publicized in a September 22 report by the non-profit aid group Oxfam, have made headlines around the world.

Under the guise of saving the environment from global warming and climate change, armed enforcers reportedly burned locals’ houses to the ground — along with at least one child who was inside his home when it was set ablaze. The goon squads also reportedly terrorized and beat the residents, threatening to murder anyone who resisted. – The New American

I have no problem with paying for a carbon tax..... :bootyshake:

People need to use less and increasing prices is a sure way to slow down consumption. Bring it on.....!!!

At what cost ?

-before I get on my soapbox, this is not a personal attack, no offence meant. My goal is to initiate thought, something quite rare these days. Its too easy to let TV think for us.

Taxes slow economic growth, reduce incomes and generally make people poorer.
half the money goes overseas, making the already uber rich, richer. The other half is spent digging holes purely to supposedly "create jobs" and increase GDP
Meanwhile more funding is given to windfarms that are simply not commercially viable. Not a single windfarm in the world could exist without significant government funding and subsidies, they are simply not feasible. Its just a complete waste of money, which is just a token for yours and mine hours of labour.

Also where does it end ? If you extend it out the other way, keep increasing taxes to "stop us hurting ourselves" what have you got left? Socialism. Which means EVERYONE is very poor and barely getting enough to eat. Show me a socialist country where this hasnt happened.

Tax is theft, at the point of a gun.

This is done naturally in the free market. As supply decreases, cost increases, decreasing demand. No coercion, no pointed gun, just supply and demand.

And this is all based on if you have bought in on this man made global warming thing in the first place. But lets not go there..

Always follow the money. When governments start spending big money on something and legislating the crap out of it, something is always fishy. Polititions with business interests in wind power and solar power etc etc. This happens everyday. Its very easy to buy a bunch of scientists. Al Gore and Tim Flannery have recently purchased very large expensive properties...incidentally.

Quote:
An economics professor at a small college in Wyoming made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan".. All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A.... (substituting grades for dollars - something closer to home and more readily understood by all).

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.

The second test average was a D! No one was happy.
When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

It could not be any simpler than that. Remember, there IS a test coming up. The US 2012 Elections.

These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read and all applicable to this experiment:

1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Yeah yeah, whatever.......

unhinged economic growth with no accounting for pollution or abuse of third word slave labour is not sustainable... And free market economies are starting to show the chinks in it's armour, it is not the answer to sustainable economies.......

Why is it that this debate always ends in extreme views, "it's free market economy or socialism?" Crap, there's plenty of middle ground in between.
