If you grow your fish to plate size - say 400g you will have about 50Kg fish in 1000L

Better get the much more GB ready :D

10 fish (500 gram ea) per 100 litres of growbed.

Yep, another 400 litres of growbed would be handy in 6 months :)

I would actually run the extra beds now, better aeration, better filtration, and I reckon plants grow just fine with nitrate of 0.

Hey Steve, can you finish it by March. I'll be over then and I'd love to have a look, or do you need help to put it together?

FTR, the system is plenty up and running, water clear, cycled, seedlings growing, trout wetting the fence every time i feed :)

It the first time i've had luck with direct sowing so i'm just waiting for there to be something pretty to show then i'll post pictures. That and a bit of a tidy up of the supply pipes :)

Hi all, am new to forums so not quite sure. I have had a successful 12 months (after a previous twelve month or more of research, planning and building) with only a few spikes in test results (due to factors I could identify), so far so good! I am interested in local climate variation (I am from Coburg) and how people deal with these issues or if people even consider these annual fluctuations as merely contributing to the ebb and flow of all biological activity. I would be interested to know about any local food aquisition sites if they are available. Currently I am running about 120 SP (hard to count exactly) in 1000l with around 800l of growbeds (another 450l ready if needed). It is my first set-up and I would be interested to see larger more advanced systems. The information I have gleaned from this site and many others, a basic biological background, and patience have seen for myself a relatively problem free entry into aquaponics, thanks to all (and all websites) M.D

Hi,
Are there any get-togethers coming up in Victoria. I went to one last Feb. at Jim's place & I thought there was discussion of holding more throughout the year. Maybe I have missed out. The way to learn is by seeing other ppl's systems.
Just a suggestion, but maybe we could get someone to arrange to email ppl with notices of coming dates, if members don't mind sharing their email addies. Just a thought.

Loz.
