hi there, our names our jason and dana. we have been reading and studying about aquaponics for quite a while... we are going all in,, we have studied the manual from BA .. so here are the ideas wehave already dug a 6000 litre tank and are only filling it up to 4000 liters for our trial start. also we are putting together a 10x24 greenhouse.. our problems are unique for our climate as it freezes here and solid for the winter, so our system will only run from april till nov.. we will stock rainbow trout approx 50-70 to start and 150-200 for year two and up to 5 4x8 growbeds with some nft racks for herbs... i have posted some early pics on members system.. so far i think we are the only ones doing ap in western canada,, hi every body out there and thank you for this forum jason

I am just learning about aquaponics but would love to figure out how to set up a system that would be pretty self caring (able to leave for the weekend) on a balcony in Idaho.

We get 2-3 months of sub freezing night time lows and 2-3 months of 90-100(32-38C) daytime highs - and the climate is semi arid with lots of sunshine

New to the forum, but not necessarily new to aquaponics. Have been over a year in the planning stages for a large backyard setup, with construction currently on hold due to winter (and with a large concrete-block-filled pit in my yard). I had been planning a DWC setup based on the Rakocy/Savidov models, but after lurking around here a bit I'm not so sure anymore (I'm fortunate enough to have lived an hour from Dr.Savidov and been able to volunteer at his facility for a couple days).

I'm located just outside Kelowna, Canada. Blessed with a mild (by Canadian standards) winter with temperatures hovering around freezing (though unfortunately overcast) and a scorching summer where 40C and not a cloud in sight isn't too uncommon.

My System is about 1800l with 65 Tilapia mariae and one orechromis niloticus. I grow a lot of tomatos and other vegetables.
But the season is almost over...

I am a South-African Canadian living in China for 10years.
Small 22l liter system timed-F&D, small CF seedling tray, 3 grow lights, 2 goldfish (little darlings); for growing lettuce, tomatoes, beets and herbs in my kitchen.

Hey I live in north Florida USA and have a constantly evolving system that is currently around 6000 gallons and and is in a 5400 gallon pool and two 300 gallon tanks. I raise koi, bluegill, and tilapia. Over the winter I'm going to add another 1200 gallon system to hopefully raise barramundi in.

have you found a source for barra fingerlings in the us?

No unfortunately, that is the reason for not starting them yet. Do you know of a source or are you looking to?

i looked for a while and didn't find anything, so decided to use yellow perch and bluegill.. both have been doing well for a while now

Someone could make a bloody fortune if they would start breeding them in the US. For an experienced breeder it would not be to difficult to get it started.

i read about a US company that was producing barra, but it looked like they were getting their fingerlings/fry from australia...can't find the info now

It’s a damn shame that florida wont do more to allow their own species like the snook and red fish.
