How's everyone's systems coming along? I'm now cycling 4 GBs off of 2 FTs.

Was reading and found out that Blue Talapia in NW Florida requires a permit. And Blues are the only thing we can have.

Who has fish in their systems and what do you have?

I'm about an hour east of Tally.
Currently acquiring materials and beginning to build grow beds and such.

It's my understanding that you only need an aquaculture permit if you are selling your fish.

Here in south Florida we have blue tilapia and Nile tilapia. Thinking about channel cats because they are supposed to be hardy.

I have looked into blue cat briefly as they are smaller and IMO better tasting.

How big do they get? Do you eat them whole or filet them? My DH has gotten so spoiled that he doesn't want to eat a fish that can't be filleted.

The blue cat can be filleted they have always been a smaller fish when I have caught them average size around here when I've fished for them about 4-10 lbs. My buddy says in the wild they can grow to 65+. I'm guessing stuck in a tank will stunt their growth drastically and 4-5 lbs is about all you will get out of them.

I bought it from a local place in Century FL. Got about 7 yards for $98 and paid a local guy $100 to deliver it. The delivery was going to be like $300. There's a place in Milton that sells pretty cheap but you have to have a dump truck or dump trailer to get it. I guess it all depends on how much pea gravel you want. I also know a guy in Milton that brings me asphalt for my driveway he may be able to help.

I've found it's better not to tell folks what you are doing and just tell them you need the pea gravel.
