Hi everyone. I'm new-ish to Phoenix and just getting bit by the Aquaponic bug. Still in the planning phase of my AP system, and I'd love to meet up with some fellow AP-ers.
One question I'd like to ask, has the heat been a problem for the plants outdoors? I'm concerned that the summers may be too harsh to do any growing/planting. I have the space indoors for a system, but if possible, I'd like to grow outdoors.
In the next two weeks (maybe sooner, just working out the design), I'm planning on building a learner unit with a 60 gallon fish tank, two 55 gallon barrels cut length-wise for grow beds, and another 55 gallon barrel used as a fill tank to balance out the water level during the on cycle. Once I have it running and stable, I'll move to a larger unit; most likely a IBC based CHIFT PIST system.

Hi, all. I, too, am just getting started. I plan on cutting up my first barrel this weekend, and making the trip to Apache Junction to get an IBC for the fish. I see most posts indicate new AP folks, and wonder, other than the garden pool folks using their pool, has anyone successfully run an outside system thru the entire summer, and if so, share your trials, tribulations, successes or suggestions? Oh, and BTW, my hubby does not seem interested in this, so any hints on doing these things for someone with less strength will be appreciated. I do have my own power tools!
