Hello APeople Even tho i cant really get my system set up and running for a few months yet, there is a chance i can pick up 2 x 1000 ltr ibc (ex greywater tanks apparently) tomorrow at an auction...super cheapsy ( both tanks for less than $200 maybe- which seems cheap for 2000ltr capacity when compared to new tanks of same capacity ). Also, being square they really suit my position/space, so hope theres some good news on these puppies... I know its short notice but i just found out about them, and was thinking that if the general consensus is these are good for AP, i may have a crack at bidding on them--and maybe aquire a great basis for my eventual system anyhoo, hope there are a few longtime AP folks trawling round tonight that have some good advice... cheerz D |

i'm only new to AP but i used to of them in my system for grow beds and have had no problems, and that price sounds pretty good too. |

From what I read here ,, good as buried grow beds ,, suspect over ti9me if exposed to sun-light. I'm sure that those who have used them will soon give you the headsup |

and the exposure to light thingy......maybe its better i just hold off and get a proper uv stabilised tank when i can....though i thought these ibcs woulda had to be UV stabilised food grade plastic to cart drinking water in? |

The lighter the plastic the more it tends to breakdown in the sun. |

Hmm, thanks all...since i have no space where the system is gonna go to bury them, dont think i can take the chance they'll break down..that would be a tremendous pain in the...and i have no wish to have an immediate HSM... ..might just give it a miss then and see what the universe has in store for me down the track vis a vis FTs etc... cheers, will start a new thread when i start collecting some actual components.. damn, if only i could find some square tanks that volume....i might have a talk to a mate whos a shipright and see if he cant figure out some fibreglass solution for me instead?.... |

If you paint them they sould withstand the sunlight. what were you going to use them for, the fish tanks or the grow beds? |

As long as they are coloured and not translucent they should last OK. Even the translucent ones last a few years and as long as they are not being carried around it shouldn't be a real drama |

Thx 4 that... i want them for my fish tanks if was gonna use.....want bathtubs a la Worms's set up for my grow beds and yabby tanks underneath... oooooohhh...unsure now , as there is one that is black ( prob no good as wouldnt see fish well in it? ) and one white/opaque one......don't know what to do, just seems like a fantastic price if they worked/didnt leak to get two base components for little $... i guess if they did leak i could fibreglass the insides? thats my main concern..... waitin to hear back from my shipright mate who works with fibreglass to see what, if anything he/we can do about custom tank building and how much $ to do that.... |

IBC are great, used them in my system, one buried and one with a wooden cover inside a green house so UV is not an issue. Lot of pictures in the link below. Easy to plumb and cheap. |

Impressive setup FF....especially like the yabby add-on...love those little critters.. hmm, maybe i bloody will bid on at least one of em....tho mine will be out in the open a bit more, tho your timber facade seems to solve that issue quite nicely.... cheerz D |

Just make sure you know what was in the IBCs, and give them a good scrub out. Yeh the yabbies are fun. My little bloke loves them... but not so much when I get them out and they walk around the back lawn. The wooden cover was cheap, just old untreated floorboards from a scrap yard. Good luck with the bidding, hope it goes well.
