Hi, I'm kind of new to aquaponics. I have several various size of aquaponic systems. In one of the systems, I'm experimenting with using aquaponics to grow roots of the herb cuttings I got from my garden. Right now none of them has gotten root yet. But I noticed some of their leaves fell into the grow bed as well as one of them appears dead. My question is that can I leave these leaves and dead plant as is in the system and let them decompose over time, or do I need to clean them out of the system and throw them into the compost bin? Thanks. Robby |

Hi Robby, welcome to the forum .I'd probably remove the dead leaves but wait on the others unless they've collapsed and you know they aren't going to bounce back - FYI, it's often recommended that you remove the lower leaves from cuttings you are trying to root so I don't think it would be a big deal either way. |

Thanks for the advice, scotty435. I will remove the dead leaves as soon as possible because they have already become black and begun decomposing when I checked last time. I didn't think that they are decomposing so quickly within days |

Hi! I would definitely remove all the dead leaves because it the dead matter is a good 'nutrient' for bad bacteries. |

Hi, Robby You should definitely remove all the dead leave and plants from your aquaponic system. Because dead leaves and plants are the ideal places for harmful bacteria. So it can be dangerous for your aquaponic system. Regards, Murray Hallam Consultant in Queensland https://www.imaspammer.com |
