Post subject:  Starter - set up question

Hello all,
I'm based in SE QLD - Gold Coast Hinterland, and am very interested in setting up a small to medium system for home use. I have a green house with 10% shade cloth - about 5x3m and a shed, that was used as a hot house (for growing orchids). Where do I start best - eg do I set up ponds in the shade house, knock down the old shed and set up growing beds (north facing - full sun), or set up ponds in the shed and the growing beds in the shade house?

I would like to see a working system so if you know of a contact in this corner of the world - I would appreciate to get in touch.
Cheers

welcome bb - good idea to have a look at a working system and have a read of some of the different types of systems in the member's section.

I'm at Caboolture (which is a slight distance from you  ), you're welcome to have a look any time...there may be others closer by that can help also

Hi BB, welcome to the forum :D

Make sure your system can be protected from the weather if need be. I've been snowed on before up on the GC Hinterland :D

well, not snow by your standards, that's for sure, but cold white stuff fell from a cloudy grey sky, and it wasn't hail ;)

You all have weather changes? We don't know what they are... We have it rains, it isn't raining. Nothing else really. :D

Thanks all,

Jaymie - yes we do have frost - usually in JUL AUG. But this should be OK.

Ellkaybee - maybe one day I'm near by. A visit would be great - I'll let you know when / if it happens.

There is actually another guy up here who is interested, and if I russle up the local Landcare group we might even have funds to pay someone to give a talk. So if you know of a contact in SE QLD or Brisbane, I'll like to get in touch.

I should probably check the member list myself...

Welcome BB - would be happy to have you over at my place also when you make it up. My system is not as impressive as Les', but it's always good to see some different styles when you are designing.

Regarding the talk - let us know how you go. I'm sure we could put something together. If there is enough interest, we may even be tempted to do it for nothing (or fuel money through donations at the door) ;-)
