Post subject:  Is this PUMP good enough?

Hello... I bought a pump (but still on time to change it if is not a good one). I will have a fish tank with a bit more than 1000 Lt, for now still not sure if I place the pump directly on the fish tank, or if I create a sump tank? And is this clear water pump good enough?

No expert, but it's all about head (height from water level to height of where you need to pump to) and flow rate.

I have a 3500lph pump with 0l flow at 3 meters. I pump to about 1.75 and get just over 1000 litres (theoretical based on pump data sheet). Still need to measure this myself.

The auto on and off is a cool feature. Is the pump made to be on 24x7?

What's the make and model?

Thank you Swazz :)

This pump brand is Sterwins 350 CW-2 5500 L/h (it was cheap - around 40 euro), I heard we should have the pump 3 times stronger than the liters, so we don't need to let it on for the whole time, it will be on maybe around 5 min, few times during the hour cycle.. (still need to test a lot)... But it says here that pumps 4700 L/h at 2m high .. and so I guess I will not have higher than that.. but if I put 6m high it will pump 1200 L/h. My idea is to run it as little as possible... although maybe should be on at least 5 minutes... then maybe off for 10, .... not sure... still need to test.

My concern here is that the pump says "clear water" and it will not accept dirt with more than 5mm ... not sure how big the fish poo can be ;)) will see..

Hiya Rita, looked thru your fb page, looks like a great build, nice work.
Pumps. These are the heart of your system, it needs to be economical and most of all reliable. Sometimes cheap isn't the best.
Pond pumps are the most popular choice >5 mm particle size. Rule of thumb is to turn over the fish tank at least once an hour.
Have a look through this thread for some ideas.
