Trying to pinch penny's. I have a ton of bricks that were reclaimed off an old building. I was thinking of breaking them up and using them to fill the large section of my barrel GB. Then cover with a bag or two of pea gravel.

Any thoughts?

it will work as long as you remove the mortar.
however submerged bricks break down pretty quickly, they may start crumbling after a couple of years in water, however if you dont touch them too much / roughly then they shouldnt break too much.

Thanks for the link Charlie.. I did a quick search, but obviously did not look close enough. I will be using it as a base rock. I have a bunch of large River Rock witch will go on the very bottom where there will be standing water. Then a layer of crushed brick and finally a layer of pea gravel.

Sounds like as long as I get the mortar out of the way, I should be fine with PH.

I found Pea gravel on gumtree is very cheap. I paid a guy $30 to fill my 300l GB. Won't go through all that effort to break up bricks and to have additional rocks at the bottom of the GB.
