Not even new - just thinking Aquaponics.
Bought two IBC's and the guy said.. "Just wash it out - it's fully BioDegradable and safe"

Well the label says TEXAPON N70T, and that is SLS (Sodium Laurel Sulphate), and every "Good Health" article, tells me to avoid SLS..

So.... Will these tanks EVER be safe to grow table fish in..

the US accepts that RoundUp is perfectly safe, and yet much of the WORLD disagrees..

GOOGLE works fine in finding the stuff THEY want you to find..
I am inclined to refuse to use the IBC's but wondered if others had used them and not seen any problems.. Although, a USER would likely never know if there was a problem..

I really want to use these IBC's but I have to admit that I am worried about how much SLS will leach from the plastic..

Why would any SLS leach from the plastic? HDPE isn't known for absorbing anything.....

Now. That is the kind of comment that I want to hear..
I just want to be fairly confident that washing REALLY well, will do the job.. along with a soak for a time..

These IBC tanks are a clear god-send for the task... We need to have confidence that they can be made safe...

Any chemists out there who can suggest anything to guarantee neutralization of SLS, JUST TO BE SURE TO BE SURE..
two IBC tanks... two thousand L of water to soak for a time.. don't want to do more than once..

Well, SLS is a detergent and is highly soluble in water. And once it's in water, it has 45-95% biodegradation within 24 hours.

Bottom line - if you spray water in and it foams - rinse it more.

The Gernie has been working like a dragon..

One thing for sure.. YOU KNOW, when there is ANY SLS there - froths like a bought one..

I am pretty confident that they WILL clean up OK, but just a warning to others, do avoid getting ones with heaps of SLS left.. It's been two days trying to get the bulk of the goo out and now the washing..

We wont be wanting for SOAP for a very long time.. 20Ltrs of massively concentrated stuff.. but NOT for body use :naughty:

i'd use them... clean with detergent, rinse with bleach, nutrilize with vinegar.. then let it sit in the sun for a couple days
