Post subject:  Edible bred of Fish in NZ?

Hi everyone,

I am investigating and slowly getting supplies for my first aquaponics set up.

I live in New Zealand - Rotorua for those of you kiwis, and was wondering if there is an edible bred of fish available here?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Cheers Andy

Welcome Andy. Don't know the answer to your question, but best of luck with the system mate. Make sure you create a Members Systems thread so we can watch your adventure unfold.

I would have thought rainbow trout were readily available in NZ and the temps would be perfect for them

Thanks Skelley for your post. Very helpful thanks mate! Grasscarp seem to be the only edible (legal) option lol.

Will share pix when i can.

Thanks guys

There's plenty of koura in the lakes there, I'm in auckland and wouldn't mind trying them. Im using goldfish now because I think it gets too hot for them in summer here...I might stick one in the sump and see if it survives
