I would like to know some general tips for my set up. Are their certain plants that can't handle a constant flooded media bed(over water)? For a small 40g tank set up, I only have about 3'x18''x5" of media, will that cause an issue with plants? If I have a bell siphon setup, how long should my bed be flooded? it fills up about 1' under the top of the 5'' of media in about 20 seconds then can drain out in the same time when the pump cuts off, is 15mins every hour too much or too little? Should there be a night time break for pumping? my seedlings start strong and get to 6"-1' then get soggy and die, even tho I have not changed anything, what does that mean? the roots get squishy then the stem. any other random info would be much appriciated! Ill throw up some pics later im just having issues with my phone. |

Commercial hydroponic and aquaponic systems generally use floating rafts with the plants roots in water constantly with no problems. What type of plants are we talking about here ? My systems are all constant flood and I sometimes get seedlings that rot but it is random and doesnt happen often enough to be a problem |
