The basics apply in every situation, which is to provide an ammonia source. Marron will do this. |

i was told no more than 3 - 4 due to marron being quite territorial also was suggested to me that the marron might not like the plastic base of an IBC, of course i ignored all of this and i have no marron left but im pretty sure they climbed out which i was also warned about thought i did try take preventative measures against it Good luck Cheers Pete |

And yes they have had a few fights so I made heaps of hiding places in there ............ If they don't like the floor you could allways go to soils ain't soils or some thing and cove the base in about an inch of stone I'd probably use the crushed river stone easyer to clean |

I was thinking this maybe an issue but was thinking today of a plan to still have a large quantity seems like the only reason you cant have many in there is they don't like each other so I have brought a few baskets that have small holes in the side (you no like pantry ones)and drill 4mm holes in then bottom so I am making a mesh lid that I can tie down with wire then on the hang them off the support of the grow bed this should allow me to have roughly 3 marron in each basket and the 10 on the bottom. what do you think ? |

I was going to pose the question of doing something close to blue yabby's EDU system, structured hides without them being enclosed, i am looking at yabby's and 2 inch tree seedling trays i think i can fit at least 4 trays in the bottom of an IBC sump maybe more if i do a couple of levels, perhaps something the size of about a 1.25 coke bottle for Marron. |

Sorry to be blunt, Brad, but the EDU systems sicken me to the core. Besides being a crappy failed concept that never left the show room floor, they would have to be one of the most grotesque form of cage farming Ive seen to date. Its disgusting. Its coversations like this that reminds me that there needs to be some form of training involved before people go off farming their own crustaceans... even if its on a small scale. *sigh* |

that came across wrong Charlie i'm not talking about caging them just providing a structured form of hides instead of a few bit of pipe on the bottom, on the chicken reference more like barn raised rather than cage high number but each having there own space where they choose and the ability to move around. |

im with you i cant believe in this day and age anyone would try and raise anything like that, but it did lead me to look at some form of structured hide system and plant trays seem to be a really good option, already have holes in the bottom for water flow easy to instal and remove, say one yabby for every 2-3 hides, not sure just a thought at this point, like i said was going to pose the question and see what everyone thought. |
