ok so here is my dilemma I have a 55g tank I am going to use for my fry. I have placed it atop my fish tank and I would like to fill and drain it using a siphon I have made a pic design of my idea that I will attach. my problem is as I drain the tank with a siphon I figured as the tank water dropped it would pull water up from the other siphon I cant figure out how to make this work although I know it can with a little ingenuity

You want to lift the water from the 270 gallon tank up to the 55 gallon tank without using any kind of pump?

Siphoning 'uphill' would break the laws of physics, as far as I'm aware!

EDIT: *laws of thermodynamics

maybe if I use a 4" pipe capped with a reducer to a 3/4 threaded / male slip poly fitting and run a line down to the tank as the tank empties it should create suction on the 3/4 line and pull up the water

oh obviously the line would have to be charged I have a 1" foot valve ill attach to the bottom

its a glass tank

glass drill bit..you could hang another bucket on the side and do a no hole overflow into the bucket from the ft, then let the bucket drain into the ft

No-energy perpetual flow is the future of aquaponics...

ok so I used 2 4" pipes connected to a 3/4 tee and ran 3/4 pipe down to the FT good news is it works it creates enough suction to draw water bad news is it draws much less than the siphon out so my guess is I need to create more area inside my gravity suction so I am thinking maybe a square bucket so as the tank level drops it will create enough pressure to pull up the water. : )

You'll be needing my special anti-gravity perpetual auto-syphoning device on the suction side- I just need you to send me ten thousand dollars to get the finishing touches sorted out :laughing3:

nope I got it thank you took me all day but I figured it out and its working fine just need to adjust it to fill at the same speed as it drains I keep having to adjust one or the other it either fills to fast or drains to fast lol :headbang:

I'm having a little trouble visualising what you have that works - could you maybe post a video?

If I understand you, you have a 4" pipe as outlet from the top tank, reducing to a 3/4" pipe running down to the bottom, then a 3/4" pipe going up from the bottom tank to a 4" pipe that is the inlet to the top tank. Is that about right?

Then you have all pipes primed with water so there are no air gaps and the drop in water level in the top tank is pulling water up from the bottom tank.

Under what conditions is the fill too fast for the outlet?
