Hi, I am new to this forum. My AP's pH always falls below 6 whenever I add urea and my cycling never happen.Its has been 6 week at first everything goes fine but now I have to start allover again.can anyone help me. Thanks Banjop |

Add some shell grit to buffer your system. |

Hi, Thanks, I have add Egg shell,Potassium hydroxide but the next day if I test again pH still the same. Banjop |

When we add shell grit we add 2-3kg at a time, now that would be an awful lot of eggshells. The shell breaks down and sits at a pH of 7.4. It is easy to use by either burying in the growbeds or a pile on the bottom of the tank or place in a stocking or onion bag. I like to bury it in the growbed where it can also be available to plants, and reducing the risk of bottom end rot to succeptibale tomato plants. As it moves the pH slowly it is a safe way to raise the pH without stressing fish and causing deaths. |

When you say my cycling never happens are you saying the ammonia stays high ? If so then it sounds like the bacteria in your grow beds /bio filter have not yet been established. For grow bed I got lucky. We have local creek gravel. It already contains the bacteria so my bio system was up and running quick. The local gravel also contains shells, again a ph buffer bonus jim
