Hi,

I understood that one if not the main reason for the Ebb n' Flow concept was to allow the roots of plants to 'breath' during the Ebb period.

How does this work in the Deep Water type of system with rafts?

Does the level of water/nutrient still Ebb n' Flow? Or is the level constant?

Rgds.

In a DWC system it is important to keep the water well oxygenated. No matter what type of system you use, the plants need to have oxygen available at the roots.

One advantage of an ebb and flow system is that the bed drains and draws oxygen around the root zone plus the pump is not running full time so therefore saves on electricity costs.
The system can also work well in a continuously flooded bed, you can search for the BYAP trial thread to see the comparisons. You might be surprised at how many different ways aquaponic systems can work.
