Does anyone know where and what kinds of small fish I can get in the UK? I would love to keep Barramundi. |

Don't think you're going to get barramundi there Christian - too cold ! you'd be better off looking at trout, or some of the other native species (if there are hatcheries that produce them). |

I can get trout but - The problem is I intend to put my kit in a heated polytunnel which will make the water too warm for trout anyways so I need something that tolerates something warm. I could of course move the kit to the shed however then I won't be able to grow plants in the mid winter because its too cold.

Hi Christan, I helped set up and run a barramundi farm in Hampshire, long since gone to the wall through greed and mismanagement, in my opinion but that's another story. The reason I mention it is because we had to order the figerlings in from a nursey in Israel. To get any reasonable growth from them you need to keep the temp up to about 25 -28 degrees. I'd love to get some aswell, I haven't set up my system yet but am considering perch and am currently looking for nurseries in the uk where I can get a hold of them. Let me know if you have any success please. :-) |

Hi Christian yes go for the Carp.. they will tolerate a wide range of conditions, and you dont have to heat the system in the winter. Aquavision in Devon can post organically reared Common Carp for AP. Many others also supply but stay away from 'Ornamental' fish if you plan to eat them as thay have been chemically treated to enhance the colours. If you do have the means to heat your system through the winter, then Tilapia might be your most productive option. good luck. |
