Hi everyone. I have been thinking about building my own aquaponics system out of an IBC. I have read quite a bit about the construction and have view many pictures but very few people discuss what they actually grow. I live in the North East and am considering using lake Trout and feeding them something other then a corn based diet. Corn based diet is not a very healty diet, garbage in = garbage out. I want to be able to get the Omega 3 benefits from eating the trout. Can anyone tell me their experiences with what grows well inthe IBC bed and the kind of grow bed material they use? Pictures would be great. I live in Allentown PA.
Thank you !

Well, as far as I can determine you can grow anything. Some foods require a bit more work than others, so I would say grow what you like /need to eat. The benefits of home grown foods raised on a natural basis has great potential and you, your family and those you share with will definietly be rewarded.

Good luck with the trout.

Most anything will grow in AP systems with the exception of the few that need a high acid content in the soil such as blueberries.

Welcome to the forum _ziggy, I've had best success with lettuce, leeks, strawberries and trout but as the system matures I can see growth improving with all else I've planted.
Maybe the thread should be 'What doesn't grow successfully in the system.'

If you're using a grow bed (media) surround that blueberry bush with coffe grounds before you place it in the system. Been there, done that ;)
