If I do a 100% water change will the system need to recycle again? I'm trying to lose the Red water from the EDDHA Chelated Iron, or would I be better off with only a partial water change?

Is the red really that bad?

Bacteria is in your bed so you won't need to cycle again..

It's pretty hard to see the fish and while I'm changing over fish tanks it would be a good time to lose a bit of the colour.

I think I may just change 75% and that should clear it up a fair bit.

It's quite a few weeks now and the colour is still hanging in there, it's not as bad as it was but it still has a long way to go.

That's the sump and in the fish tank it's a lot darker because of the depth.

Wow that looks like Cool Aid. My youngest asked me if I was going to grow fish in punch like that.

It probably wouldn't taste like Cool Aid, it didn't hurt the fish any but certainly made the plants healthier.

It might be worthwhile to run a uv sterilizer on the tank. The UV would accelerate the photodegredation of the EDDHA molecule.

I changed over to a new fish tank and put 1000 ltrs. of fresh water so the colour is not an issue anymore but I'll keep your uv sterilizer in mind for the next time I have water colour problems.

I had the same problem with murky red water from the red rock I am using for media. It was pretty disappointing to not be able to see my fish. I added some egg white to help clear it up, then hung a bucket filter under the return water pipe from the grow beds. It is just a bucket with holes soldered in the bottom and sides and I filled it with rolled up foam and polyester batting. All water returning tothe FT gets strained through this, but I can easily move the bucket aside. I am partially disabled and sometimes need to feed the fish by tossing food into the gutter that catches all the recycled water from the grow beds. Amazing how effectively this cleared up the tank. I take the bucket down and rinse the filter material when I begin to see strings of algae seeping out the holes.

try using EDTH source of iron instead. u can add any amount of this to your system and no colour change will happen.. but u must be guided still in the amounts because on the Internet it states that it may be harmful to fishes.. but I didn't see any changes in my fishes health and I was using it for bout 2 years. one thing to note is that your water ph must be around 6.0 to 6.4 to utilize the full effect of the chelated iron. gluck
