dried fish were placed in grow bed , close to plants, no signs of ammonia rising
ph above 8
ammonia 0
nitrates 0

added muriatic acid (to tap water that went through 2 filtering cartridges before adding to tank)
immediate reading ph 5
expecting it to rise after 2 days

I have white spots on my hydroton are they mineral deposits from the water?

some of the tips of the leaves of the broccoli is shriveling, is this due to temperature fluctuations, 90 to 50 * f in a couple of days and then back to 87*F today

the lettuce started to grow in the cool weather, but now I fear it may decline again

stopped by the pet store to get test solution for ph above 8, instead of using strips
was told not to be to upset over the feeder fish , they are not expected to live long

have I cycled
waiting for ph to adjust before getting quality fish

It has been my understanding that the white spots which normally form on Hydroton are salt deposits, though since Hydroton is porous, it could be a different mineral deposit. Here is some more info on it...

As far as your leaves wilting and/or changing color, most of the time it is caused by nutrient deficiencies. I would suggest contacting your local ag coop extension for further resources regarding that matter in your area.

thank you for the info on hydroton

I have sprinkled my beds with DE (both wick beds and ap having an issue with a persistent leaf miner)

I added the fish from the last photo as they were out of the bag
ammonia .25
NO2 zero
NO3 10

keeping a bucket of ph adjusting water , and adding small amounts to keep the ph from going above 7

the rate of growth is very slow, considering the amount of nutrients given to the ap grow beds compared to the wick beds
