I can get 5 IBCs now and a few more if needed as time goes...

Then I'd suggest use 2 full IBC's as individual fish tanks/systems...

Cut the 3 other IBC's in halves... use 2 halves as grow beds on each system... and the other 2 halves as a sump tank for each system...

Stock 20 fish maximum in each system... and preferably get another IBC, cut in half and add another grow bed to each system...

Configure each system as Chift Pist (Chop).. with an SLO feeding the grow beds... draining to the sump... pumping back to fish tank...

Yea, agree with Rupe. If IBC's are the only container you are willing to use that is.

I would say 1 full IBC as fish tank, and I would have a total of 2 IBC's cut in half as grow beds (for a total of 4 grow beds) per systems and then another IBC as sump, either cut in half and tied together or complete and 1/2 way sunk in the ground. This would allow you a 2:1 grow bed to fish tank ratio.

I like somewhat bigger fish tanks but I grow fish that get rather big. To stock 100 of my fish in a tank, I would recommend 1000 gallons rather than liters for the fish tank. and 2000 gallons of media.

So what makes you think you can run 1 IBC with 50 - 100 Silver Perch / Jade Perch, and 1 IBC with 50 - 100 Barramundi / Murray Cod... joined together... with 3 IBC grow beds?

The 3 IBCs will create 6 grow beds, i was thinking more along the lines of 1 IBC for Fish and 1 cut into two per "system" but join them together. Is that too much? Be gentle I am a noob lol...

The only reason I got 100 was from one of the DVDs I watched.

Also wondering if I could setup a redclaw system so that they are more separated... I'll keep thinking of that one...

Sorry posted before I saw this one lol.. Thanks that's exactly what I was thinking. I am getting IBCs because I can get them for $50 and I got a few free. I have the room at the side of the house but due to health issues can't do any digging, the two 1000ltr tanks will be under a shelter though so the fish will be happy. :)

I was looking at media and see a lot of the clay and of course Murray uses the blue metal. I am in South Brisbane and have Redback Landscaping and they have a few options but not the clay balls. Where down here can I get that please :)
Thanks for your help...

I was just thinking that maybe you could use milk crates inside the sump, which are lined with something a little bit more coarse than shade cloth so that it doesn't clog up. 9 crates peer sump, 1 red claw per crate. The water should be fairly clear of solid after the GB, but in that case you can't cover the sump with a gb.

Thought as much... I wish Murray would reauthor the DVDs.. or slap a big disclaimer sticker on them....

He's wrong... and he does issue some caveats here & there... every now and then... but the justifications he offers.. are almost just as wrong...

Try the hydroponic stores...

Not a great price... but not too bad....

They might have a few bags.. and you might be able to strike a deal...

I would never put 100 fish in an ibc in an ap system. About 20-30 would max it out in my opinion
Have seen 1000L fish tanks in aquaculture with 100 or more fish in but the filtration systems are out back and massive.
Murray makes some worrying claims on his DVD's re fish stocking and should not be taken seriously

If you want those very high stocking densities, why not not save yourself a lot of effort and just buy a few cans of sardines instead :laughing3:
