At the moment the water gets pumped from my 50litres tank for about 15mins every hour from 5am -10pm. I also have an air stone in the tank going.

Should I have the timer set every 15mins in every every hour even after 10pm for the water pump?

I would appreciate any advice.

It depends on the size of the size of the pump; read http://www.backyardaquaponics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=328661#p328661 for more discussion of this topic.
