A place to discuss aquaponics

I am looking for a type of fish that grows to about a pound in a 6 - 9 month period. Has a food conversion ratio of 1.7 or higher. Is herbivorous or omniforous. I can't grow Tilapia or grass carp in Louisiana without a permit, etc. I was thinking maybe Silver Perch, but where will I find that in the US. I hate to order from overseas. They may arrive weak and half dead. Maybe a Pacu or a gourami would fit my requirements? Any suggestions?

Have you ever heard of the mullet/mugil family?

I'm not sure about the food conversion ratio but it fits all the other requirements.

And it has a +1: it breeds easily in captivity (at least the European flathead variety does)

They are euralyne and can adapt easily to different salinities (and of course fresh water)

Thank you so much. I've been researching it and it certainly seems like it has many of the features that I desire. I should be able to find someone who will sell me some fingerlings since I know there is mullet Louisiana and Florida.
