and still going strong !Was it ten years ago ? It does not seem so very long ago that we started our aquaponic journey - but here we are still plodding along growing in the ground, hydroponically and also aquaponically ! At present we have have rainbow trout, carp , both common and mirror, and also a couple of goldfish. We have just had our annual CEFAS inspection and all appeared OK. We are getting ready for the warmer weather when our salad production really gets going! see: http://www.herbsfromwales.co.uk/joomla/ ... &Itemid=44 |

floridafishin wrote: Welshdragon, What do you think the most important thing that you have learned in 7 to 10yrs of Aquaponics? This. Please answer this question. Particularly with a leaning towards commercial undertakings. And congratulations on the long term success. May it continue as long as you desire. |

The most important thing we have learnt - is not just one thing, but many things ! Perseverance - ( not to give up at the first hurdle but to learn from mistakes or accidents) good regular housekeeping - keep a record of when jobs are done - know your market (most important). We will never be millionaires - BUT we will not go hungry. And also - we enjoy what we do !! Also- our customers are now friends and come back for more time and time again! WD and OH |

Hello Welsh Dragon Many many years ago I too lived in Mam Cymru. My son was born on Holy Island in Holyhead. When the maternity unit was still open. I can still close my eyes and see the sunset over Red Wharf Bay. Probably the best beach in the world! When the sun is shining! I have read many if not all your previous posts. As a fellow member from the UK your experience held special meaning. I am delighted that you are still AP’ing and thriving. I wish you well. Samphire? Intrigued by your posts and others I have today planted some seeds indoors in rock wool to germinate. Any advice? |

Still living the dream ! We are now in our seventies but retirement is a dirty word to us and we still potter on ! The trout and carp are plodding along, but we have had a very wet and damp autumn and winter and the slugs have been having a field day in the grow-beds. We had permission to take sea weed from the shoreline and this we have put on the grow-beds . We wait to see if there has been any benefit to plants and fish. Our loyal customers come back time and time again for the fish and also for fresh watercress, and herbs. Many of our older live alone customers like to have their trout filleted and this we also do to order. Some customers just like the fish gutted and use the head and tail to make soup etc. so , this has been an altogether worthwhile enterprise and we would recommend it to any who are in doubt !! We send Christmas Greetings to our friends around the globe and hope for a more peaceful 2016. Phil and Rowena aka WD and OH |

Sounds stupendous, you sirs are role models, if not to all those who have eyes then at the very least to my humble self :] Do let us know how the seaweed works out, i have some from the shore here that I have drying, some more that I have stewing and some more I plan to add to my GB too, will be interesting to cross reference our results. |

Speaking of role models and commercial endeavours, I have launched my own brainchild recently and have something on my plate which I would love your most valuable opinion on. Perhaps you could take a moment to visit the thread given here and lemme know what you think of my bottom post about the restaurant? viewtopic.php?f=13&t=26430&p=526580#p526580 |
