Over the holidays I had the opportunity to head up the California coastline to the little beach town of Half Moon bay to visit with family. While I was there I heard about a commercial aquaponics operation tucked away in a small valley in a greenhouse surrounded by other farming operations. I made the short 10 minute drive to Ouroboros Farms to check it out. After entering the storefront/ farm stand of their greenhouse, I was greeted by a very friendly and welcoming staff member who was more than willing to talk to a fellow aquaponics weirdo . In the front they sell everything from complete kits and books to media, pumps and produce from their system. I also found out that they teach classes monthly. Overall a great experience for randomly showing up at their greenhouse (during normal hours of operation of coarse). Here is a link of their websit, check them out http://www.ouroborosfarms.com/index.html And with their permission this picture I took.

There are 2 sets of fish tanks, so 4 in each grouping to run all the rafts and media beds you see in each photo. I can't remeber the length of the beds but they are LONG. each set of 4 tanks has its own set of filters and they run independent of each other. |

From the picture it looks like my tanks are the same diameter as those but about half the height and mine are roughly 330 gallons. So, I would guess those are probably in the neighborhood of 700 - 800 gallons. |
