Maybe not a goer in southern states

I guess it depends on the overheads. I imagine a place big enough to take in $18,000 a week would be mega expensive to setup. The market already has a lot of frozen imported barra too. I can buy it for $11 per kg at work, and that's filleted and deboned.

According to the article the farm was established in 1991 and the present owners took it over in 2003, so maybe it was the cheaper imports which killed it off or maybe it wasn't big enough to compete with other operations. I've been to a similar sized barra farm for lunch and farm tour which was great, really interesting, so I hope they don't meet the same fate !
