Funny you think of that Steve.
Been in discussions with alot of people i know about starting something.
Mainly on the aquaculture side of things, but one thing leads to another and so on.Only problem at the end of the day people will buy whats cheapest and would rather get fillets/fish from woolies even though what I could grow would he healthier and they would be supporting local business.
Mabey do as you say and bata to friends(for gold  )

I wonder if selling / bataing fish without license gets you in the s@#t here like that old fella swapping lotto tickets for fish.I mean we are in the dessert for gods sake

Bundy, believe me, if i lived where Gnash does i'd be seriously thining of it. Unfortunaly humanity is a creature of nececity, and if they don't HAVE to buy local fresh food they WONT  one in inner melburne has about 2 chances of taking off in anything more than a niche market..........none and f all ;)

Gnash, unfortunatly the law is the law............so just keep it quiet :) LOL seriously though yu're going to have much more veggies than fish, so take what you need for yourself and then quietly pass the rest on to CLOSE family and friends.

keep me in the loop buddy :)

Agreed, but in a remote arid area your market for FRESH GROWN PRODUCE would be much higher.

I very seldom buy seafood and meats from woolies or coles if I can't help it. I am lucky that the Gossies markets and fish market is on the way home from work... Or Canning Vale markets, get there real early like 6 am and they are practically straight off the boats. WA guys would know what I am talking about. Or catch it myself... although the Swan river is kinda crap atm.

The other issue that you are dealing with is that the chains want consistency of production and traceability of veggies. If we were to sell to the local grocery store, and things went well, they would want to double their order and have it filled the next day. In a backyard production scheme, that's not possible or practical. Also, when the spinach and onion problems happened, it took them some time to trace the problem back to the source. If the source had been you or me, we would lose everything in the lawsuits resulting from that. (Mind you, the probability of it happening in a backyard AP system is virtually nil, but we're talking liability and paranoia here.)

Apparently they gas the strawberries to make em bigger, that is why they are sometimes hollow, or that a myth. And you can tell when you are eating an artificially ripened tomato or piece of fruit.
